bonterra-sauvignon-blanc-2015-bottle

As more and more people try to commit to eating healthier, and living healthier lives, the abundance of organic has increased on supermarket shelves.  Unsurprisingly, wine has followed along and organic wines are on the rise.  Still, it doesn’t mean you have to spend an arm and a leg.   Hailing from Mendocino, California, Bonterra Organic Vineyards not only makes a number of reasonable organic wines, but is a proud supporter of Farm Aid 2016. If you like Sauvignon Blanc, then Bonterra Sauvignon Blanc might even be a great way to support both organic farms, and dress your Thanksgiving table.  \

[Disclosure:  Bonterra was nice enough to send me a sample of their wine to talk about.  They sent some lovely pictures of farmers as well, which are key to making their great wine.]

Sight: A medium straw with flecks of green / gold.

Smell:  Great notes of cantaloupe and honeydew melons lead off with lots of lime and herbs.  Touches of peach and passion fruit with a bit of a floral bent.

Sip:  The body is vibrant and medium-light in weight.  Brilliant limes pop out from the get go, complimented by peach, melon, gooseberry, and green herbs.

Savor:  The ending is green, grassy, and leans heavily between passion fruit and gooseberry.

Bonterra Sauvignon Blanc is a shimmering, refreshing California Sauvignon Blanc.  The warmer fruit notes make it accessible, while the acidity keeps liveliness up.  The lime and gooseberry flavors give it great typical Sauvignon Blanc character, with just a little bit of the pithy nature.  Bonterra Sauvignon Blanc is delicious, and a great choice for lighter fare.  With the bright acidity, it can also make a great pairing for the Thanksgiving feast.

Verdict:  Honeydew, Limes, Passionfruit, Green Herbs
