Uncensored Red Blend 2012

This post of tasting notes and review of Uncensored Red Blend is part of a collaborative series called “If you like…” with 10K Bottles.  Check out the full article over at 10K Bottles website to see how it compares to Murphy Goode Homefront Red and a field of other reds from California.

Sight:  A brownish-red brick core with a firm red edge flecked with pink

Smell:  Blackberries, black plums, and ripe bing cherries all drive home dark fruit notes. Touches of roasted espresso and vanilla linger in the background. Hits of ripe red tomato and cherry come together. The overall nose has a jamminess to it.

Sip:  Full bodied with an average acidity. Plums and blackberries are the flavors of the day, with touches of dark chocolate, cherry, and toasted oak. The texture is a little thinner than it would seem but conveys notes of red fruit in the gaps.

Savor:  The finish is deeply tannic, and pulls in black plum, cherries, and a hint of mocha. The finish lasts a while, leaning into smoke and vanilla.

Uncensored Red Blend wants to strong arm things, but never quite gets physical. There are nice elements of dark fruit going, and the balance of fruit and oak is alright, but the texture wants a little more depth. The finish is ready for food in a nice and not overwhelming way, and it’s relatively easy going on its own. Overall, there are some nice elements in play with Uncensored Red Blend, but it leaves a little more to be desired.

Verdict:  Black Plums, Cherries, Toasted Oak, Mocha
