Playtime Red 2013

This post of tasting notes and review of Playtime Red is part of a collaborative series called “If you like…” with 10K Bottles.  Check out the full article over at 10K Bottles website to see how it compares to Murphy Goode Homefront Red and a field of other reds from California.

Sight:  A consistent ruby red from edge to edge.

Smell:  Raspberry and strawberry feature prominently here with bits of spice and dusty roads.  Touches of vanilla and toasted chocolate scones come into play.

Sip:    A moderate bodied and tempered acidity is backed with lots of cranberry, raspberry, and strawberry.  The red fruits are mixed with touches of vanilla and spice.  There is a little hint of balsamic, plum, and cherries.

Savor:  The ending picks up very gentle tannins with touches of pomegranate and cocoa.  The finish is rather short

Playtime Red is whimsical and playful, but not overly developed.  The mix of red fruits is nice, the oak influence enjoyable, and the brief ending is interesting.  Everything is well balanced and contained.  Overall, Playtime Red is a nice enjoyable any time sort of wine that plays nice with others.

Verdict:  Raspberry, Strawberry, Cranberry, Spice
