Skinnygirl Moscato 2013

Skinnygirl Moscato 2013

Welcome to the New Year! Time to kick those resolution into high gear, and everyone who’s got the ‘I want to look good naked resolution’ is probably looking to trim up.  Whether or not we like to discuss it, alcohol has a lot of calories.  If we assume a standard glass is 5oz,  a dry white is about 105 calories for a glass, where a red is about 110.  If you go pretty far up the sweet spectrum, for example Luccio Moscato d’Asti 2014, you get about 114 calories per 5oz glass.  Skinnygirl Moscato 2013 claims to help with this problem, by shaving 14 calories (or half a carrot) out per glass.  Does it taste any good though?

Skinnygirl Moscato 2013 Pour

Sight:  It’s a surprisingly deep shade of yellow, almost a little greenish with small bubbles.

Smell:   To be honest, it comes out a little bit like unripe peaches mixed with a starfruit and a hint of flowers.  The overall effect ends up a little like an old tire.

Sip:  It starts off slightly sweet, and then gets a little bitter.  There are notes of flowers and nectarine skin.  The semi-rubber like note hangs around.  There isn’t much brightness either, and feels flabby. [A.B.V. 9%]

Savor:  The ending is mercifully quick with just a bit of peach skin,

Skinnygirl Moscato leaves something to be desired.  It doesn’t deliver those punchy stone fruit, bright floral, or sweet flavors that make Moscato great. While the whole idea of saving a few calories isn’t bad, it’s probably not a bad plan to merely try to consume less wine, and have it be genuinely good wine.  It’s also probably a good choice for your liver in the long term if you happen to be consuming a lot.  That said, there’s nothing wrong with a glass or two of good stuff, but save your calories for the good stuff, not Skinnygirl Moscato.

Verdict:  Starfruit, Unripe Stone Fruit, Rubber, Flabby
