Three Wishes Chardonnay

The last two experiences with Whole Foods’ Two Buck Chuck competitor haven’t gone particularly well. The Merlot was drinkable, but not enjoyable, and the Cabernet Sauvignon was slightly off gasoline and prunes.  As compared to Two-Buck-Chuck, who made a similarly offensive Merlot, and a surprisingly enjoyable Cabernet.  Unfortunately, Charles hasn’t made any particularly successful moves in the white wine category.  Can Three Wishes succeed where Chuck has failed?

Sight:  A pleasant gold, hard to say if it looks young or old for it’s age…

Smell:  Lychee, nectarine, and pineapple all feature prominently.  Green apple provides the back-up vocals.  A sort of fruit punch, fruit by the foot smell overall.

Sip:  Creamy mouth texture, lower acid, and sadly, tropical nature doesn’t carry through.  The wine gets a bit more of a cardamom and tea flavor.  It took a second to realize, but the flavor is strongly reminiscent of peach-white grape juice. [A.B.V. 12.5%]

Savor:  Slightly acidic white grape juice.  Amazingly Welchs like, but with lower sugar.  It does disappear quickly.

Overall, it’s pretty fun for the price.  It’s not going to turn any heads, and focusing too hard on it may cause nostalgia for days on the school yard.   Despite this though, it’s worth a try, especially if you have a peach-white grape juice thing.
