Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling 2014 Bottle

Moving toward the sweet side of the spectrum, is Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling.  It’s not the first time we’ve covered this wine, and based on last time, it seems like it should be a great time.    So how does the new vintage fare?  Is it still a sweet way to slide into the weekend?

Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling 2014

Sight: A straw light color, with hints of gold.

Smell:  Honey leaps out of the glass, and is surrounded by fresh, honey crips apples and notes of honeysuckle.  There are some slight citrus elements in the background, but it’s almost totally overwhelmingly hit with a huge honey stick.

Sip:  Sweet is an incredibly accurate, but it’s not flabby.  While the sugar is round on the palate, it has a good amount of acidity to keep it balanced.  The honey notes keep coming through, but more apple and pear elements creep in.  There’s a nice touch of floral coming through too.

Savor:  The ending has a bit of lemon, green apple, and honey.

It’s pretty hard to argue with Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling.  The elements of honey are great drivers, and the stone fruit is nice.  The acidity is key hear, keeping it delicious, and away from being overwhelming.  If you like sweet wines, or want something to go with dessert or spicy foods, then Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling is a perfect choice.
