Mamamango

Moscato is everywhere right now.  It’s easy to drink, super fruity, sweet, and delicious.  What’s not to love?  With the proliferation of Moscato, a few wine products have been cropping up that add flavor to sparkling wines.  Strolling through Costco, I could help but think it might be fun to try Mamamango, a Moscato mixed with mango.

You might notice that Mamamango’s bottle tells you to tip it, which isn’t standard procedure for sparkling wine.  Well, that’s because it’s not.  Instead, it’s needed to help mix in the mango sediment that can naturally fall out of the wine.  Remember, there’s a truck tire worth of air pressure in there, so be careful, and turn it slowly!

Sight:  The color is an appropriately mango color.

Smell:  The nose is similarly mango laced, but there’s nice touches of lychee and flowers.  The mango is fun, with that distinctly peppery note mango sometimes has.

Sip:  The body is sweet, but not overly so, and has a lot of little fizzy bubbles.  The mango flavor is beautiful with hints of that pepper character, lychee, and hints of flowers.  A touch of lemon is here and there, and there’s a nice acidity.

Savor:  The ending is of course mango filled, and lasts like a puree.

Frankly as wine products go, Mamamango is just a ton of fun, and really delicious.  As a taste of summer, it’s absolutely lovely, and the mango flavor is clean and real.  It’s low in alcohol too, so it’s easy to sip (at 6%, it’s basically on level with beer!).  If you love Moscato and want to get a feeling of what it might be like to have a mango Bellini in a bottle, or you love mangoes, then Mamamango is a must try.

Verdict:  Mango, Lychee, Mango, Floral, Mango!
