Welcome to the start of a completely unthemed week here at First Pour Wine.  Well, that might not entirely be true.  If this week had a theme it would be all about cleaning the wines out of my cellar that I have no idea what they are, but bought them because they were on sale.  Enter Golden Boar Bianco Di Pitigliano.  After searching repeatedly for this wine, the only thing I was able to come up with was this article, which is honestly, fairly positive.  From what I understand, this particular version is actually a blend beyond the Trebbiano grape, and includes Chardonnay, Malvasia, and Viognier. With that in mind, let’s see how it tastes.

Sight:  A moderate hue of gold that leans a little green.  Showing some aging in it’s color.

Smell:   The nose is clearly weighty with plenty of floral and almond like aromas leading off.  Touches of nectarine and lemon come in with a little bit of diesel.  A slightly reductive, oxidized note is in play with the age.

Sip:  The body is bright, yet rather heavy.  There’s a nice mix of creamy nuttiness and lemony floral notes that come together.  There are fun elements of starfruit, papaya, and wild herbs all in play, lending greener notes to keep things lively.

Savor:  The ending is clean, with a good amount of minerality, nuttiness, and lemony floral elements.  The finish has a way of lingering.

When super cold, I thought Golden Boar Bianco Di Pitigliano was somewhat too nutty and oxidized.  However, as it came closer to cellar temperature,  I found there were many excellent floral and citrus notes layered into the body.  While it lacks some finesse, and is definitely toward the end of it’s life, there’s still a nice flavor left in Golden Boar Bianco Di Pitigliano.

Verdict:  Floral, Nutty, Lemon, Wild Herbs
