Opening The Abarbanel Batch 30 Unoaked Chardonnay I realized that this wine wasn’t quite what I had expected.  Sure, it was a Chardonnay.  Sure, it was old.  And sure, it was white.  No, what struck me about it was actually the design on the cork, which appeared to be Hebrew.  In fact, it was, so if you’re looking for a Kosher wine, The Abarbanel Batch 30 Unoaked Chardonnay is a potential option for your celebration.

Sight:  A deep golden hue.

Smell:  The nose has a strong inclination toward clover and honeysuckle with touches of golden apple.    There’s an aged note, leaning into the diesel side of the spectrum.

Sip:  The body has remnants of the acidity that was, but is showing it’s age and shows a hint of possible oxidation.  Having missed round, and moved toward flabby.  Flavor wise, it carries some nice fresh apple with a firm amount of clover and honeysuckle.

Savor:  The ending is unremarkable with a hint of lemon, apple, and floral.

The Abarbanel Batch 30 Unoaked Chardonnay 2012 is on the last of it’s legs.  If you happen to see a bottle of the 2012 vintage, I would skip it.  If you already own one, pop it open, there’s not much more time for it.  There are some good elements here, but The Abarbanel Batch 30 Unoaked Chardonnay might be best left to a newer vintage.

Verdict:  Clover, Apple, Apple Cider, Honeysuckle, Flabby
