Last week’s Abarbanel didn’t go so well.  In fact, it was downright ruined.  So what should you drink if you’re looking for something kosher, but aren’t digging Mani?  Based on Barkan’s previous success, let’s see if their Barkan Vineyards Chardonnay can fit the bill.

Sight:  A shimmery, clear, solid gold.

Smell:   Apple, pear, and a little bit of creaminess come to the surface.  Elements of papaya join with some lemon and give a slightly tropical note.

Sip:  The body is round, but crisp, with plenty of acidity.  The texture is again a little more on the smooth and thick side of things.  Golden apples and papaya are the leads, but bits of nectarine, lemon, and pear get into play.  A slight hint of salinity or minerality joins the fun.

Savor:  The ending is clean, and lingers on a papaya and lemon note.

Barkan Vineyards Chardonnay leans with gravitas into the tropics .   Great elements of tropical fruit run the less sweet side of the spectrum, but provide great foils for the apple and lemon throughout.  The hint of salinity and high acidity keep it lively.  Overall, Barkan Vineyards Chardonnay is very lively and well behaved.

Verdict: Bright, Round, Papaya, Apple
