Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale

Last year Greg took a crack at Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale.  With a year of perspective, and a bottle in my fridge, it seemed like the time to give it another go, and see if I saw it any differently.  Did Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale fare any better, or is it strike two?

Sight: A nice deep orange amber with a quickly dissipating off-white head.

Smell:  The basic pumpkin pie fill smell wafts up without a hitch, light on spices, with the exception of cinnamon.  Not much in the way of other scents or anything like crust.

Sip: Malt leads off, with a heavy handed carbonation, light spicing accompanies.  Pumpkin flavor is minimal, leaning toward the unsweetened squash end of the spectrum.  Perhaps a touch of hopping.  Mouth feel is oddly heavy. [A.B.V. 5.7%]

Savor:  The pumpkin flavor gets a little sour, and the spices vanish.  The mouth feel on the end is a little drying.

Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale is like buying a supermarket pumpkin pie.  It gets the job done, but it’s definitely not done with love and care.  That being said, it’s an alright brew, but most of the other pumpkin ales have more to offer at around the same price point.

Verdict:  Not much love pumpkin
