ONEHOPE Pink Glitter Edition Chardonnay 2014

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Reminders of this are everywhere, from pink ribbons on peoples lapels to the Burj Khalifa lighting in color to pink shoes in the NFL, support is high across the plant.  With 1 in 8 women being diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime, it’s not surprising that so many groups are flocking to provide their support.  ONEHOPE is a company with many great causes, and their ONEHOPE Pink Glitter Edition Chardonnay is contributing to the fight against breast cancer by providing a clinical trial for a woman with breast cancer for every 2 bottles sold.  Sure it’s expensive, but with such a great cause, is it worth the splurge?

[Disclosure:  ONEHOPE wanted me to cover their Lodi Rosé in August, which supports funding for Ovarian Cancer Research, but I was on hiatus.   Instead, we’ve reconnected and they sent me a sample of their ONEHOPE Pink Glitter Edition Chardonnay]

I’m proud to be involved with ONEHOPE on this, and the bottle looks really awesome.  It’s worth noting though, that the bottle is shrink wrapped (like above) to help keep the glitter in.  Keep in mind, when you take the wrap off, this bottle LOVES to get glitter everywhere!  That doesn’t really effect the wine, but if you’re wondering, yes, it sheds.

Sight:  A beautiful deep gold.

Smell:  The nose is a study in balance, working between ripe golden apples and pineapples to creamy vanilla, toasted coconut, and beautiful roses.  There are unbelievably deep elements, ranging from dragonfruit to passionfruit, baked apples to toasted Vietnamese cinnamon.  Baked pastries float up with vanilla, baked peaches, and preserved apricots.

Sip:  The body is lively, rich, and envelops the palate.  Rich vanilla bean, baked apples, and grilled pineapple all drive to the forefront, before delicately, and elegantly, swinging over to beautiful roses, preserved lemons, and ripe peaches.  The body is beautifully rounded, smooth, and texturally soft.

Savor:  The ending is floral, laced with cream and vanilla bean.  The finish is moderate in it’s length, and channels wonderful baked apple flavors with hints of citrus.

ONEHOPE Pink Glitter Edition Chardonnay is a knockout, with phenomenal complexity and beautiful structure.  The wine moves in layers, transitioning from beautiful creamy oak laced notes to bright tropical fruit sweetened with cream and sugar.  The floral notes run through the background, adding depth, complexity, and character.

Aside from any beautiful meal, like scallops beurre blanc or black truffle risotto, another great pairing choice is Toscano cheese.  The one below is dusted with cinnamon, and compliments the vanilla and spices in ONEHOPE Pink Glitter Chardonnay beautifully.

With the commitment to charity, ONEHOPE Pink Glitter Edition Chardonnay is fantastic Chardonnay with a great purpose.  Yes, the glitter gets all over, but it’s a beautiful wine, with a beautiful cause, and looks beautiful on your table.
